Weekly Update, October 21st
Brandon Purdue | October 21, 2009Hi Team,
Although last Sat morning turned it on and we had the DZ Operating Team available there were not enough jumpers to get a load up in the air. Those mornings often turn it on so give the club a call if you think you could be keen for a jump and make the most of those mornings before the weather packs in like last weekend.
As previously advised, we’re all set for the next Static Line First Jump Course on this weekend (Labour Weekend). The course is pretty much full but contact Tam (justin.tamehana@nzdf.mil.nz) if you want to put your name down as a reserve or register your interest for the next course. I’m sure we’ll get one more in before xmas.
As before, we’re planning towards para ops for Sat24Oct and Mon26Oct (1st Jump Cse) this weekend, there are no pilots available on Sun25Oct. We’re still on the look out for any pers that can commit to running the Manifest during the day. This weekend is looking good weather wise so hopefully we can get a bunch of loads up in the air. To facilitate this effectively we need someone running the Manifest that can keep the loads ticking over. If you can put your hand up for this role please contact Tim Fastnedge (tim@techspanonline.com).
Regarding the TV filming which took place down at the DZ a while back, this story will air on TV3 (Pacific Beat St) this Sat24Oct at 1130AM and again at 1900 on Maori TV. Check it out.
The ASC Para Club Committee got together earlier this week to cover off on our ‘to do list’. The key points to note:
– We have set the ASC Para Club AGM for Sat28Nov at 0900 at the clubrooms. More details will follow but this will be your key opportunity to find out how the club has been tracking and the initiatives that the committee has introduced. The intent of this timing is to cover off on the administration requirements of the AGM and then kick into the days jumping activity.
– The committee has moved forward on the purchase of a new cyprus to bring one of the ASI rigs into service. Although these don’t come cheap, this will assist with the juggling of rigs we are currently faced with to turn around the student loads.
– It seems the provision of food and drinks for sale down at the clubrooms has gone well so far. We’ll soon have an additional fridge down there with a freezer box to provide a few microwaveable pies/pizzas and ice blocks. Please remember that this honesty system can only remain if the stock and cash continue to balance.
– The manifest and operating procedures (i.e. prices, load plans) for the club have been an ongoing work in progress as we have got a feel for the club operations. Please liaise with the Manifest/DZSO regarding the current operating procedures and please bear with us as we firm up the operating procedures that will work long term.
– ASI are currently working on a ’subscription based email notification system’ to allow all subscribed pers to receive an email when ‘blog updates’ are placed on the website. This will allow me to place a weekly blog update on the website which will get emailed out to all subscribed pers rather than me emailing you directly. Stand by for this if the trial works. This is part of our ongoing initiatives to improve communications.
– We’ll soon have a ‘new’ computer down at the clubrooms which will assist with the Manifest/Sec/Treas processing of information.
– There’s a bunch of other initiatives and action points that we are working on that are detailed in the minutes. If you want a copy just let us know. Otherwise, we’re still working on getting these on the website.
As usual, check here and 09 417 7000 x 7519 for updates on the weekend’s para club activity and timings. Further information on the upcoming Canopy Safety and Piloting Course (Sat31Oct/Sun1Nov) is also on the web site.
Blue Skies,
Cheers,
Brandon Purdue
