ASC Para Club *special notice*
Tim Fastnedge | September 9, 2010Team,
Our skydiving community, the Fox Glaxier community and New Zealand and the families and friends of the victims were struck with tragedy last weekend with the fatal air accident at Fox Glacier. On behalf of the ASC Para Club, I express our condolences and that our thoughts are with these people and their communities and you all affected by this tragedy. In remembrance of them, the ASC Para Club will host at its clubrooms a Remembrance Service this Saturday morning (11 SEP) wet or shine at 1030 followed by a Remembrance Jump by the club’s CRW team. The team will be jumping with a black flag in memory of the jumpers that will be available to be signed by you all and will be sent down to the Fox. You are all invited; the clubrooms are outside the Base’s perimeter on the corner of Punga and Karaka Roads, Whenuapai, Auckland, and we will be lighting the BBQ afterwards so feel free to come down and catering contributions are welcome.

Looking at the weather this weekend, we seem to be having a pattern of 6 days of rain then one of sunshine and it often seems to be a sunny Wednesday when many of us can’t get to a DZ. Unfortunately, the weather for this weekend is looking fairly touch and go but there may potentially be a few holes and periods of opportunity early Sat and Sunday:
SAT Sep 11 Max 17° Min 13° Rain developing later. Northeasterlies strengthening.
SUN Sep 12 Max 18° Min 11° A few showers. Winds tending westerly.
So, hopefully the poor weekend weather comes at least after the CRW Remembrance Jump on Saturday but it is likely to be a wait and see for the weekend with our fingers crossed.
On the club side of things, there are few events coming up for September and October:
Night Jumps: confirmed for the Full Moon on 23 SEP More details next week…at a minimum you have to be current at our DZ, ‘B’ licensed and a club member. The remaining requirements, i.e. CSO approval, instruction, altimeter lighting, will be addressed that afternoon/evening with start meeting at 1500.
1st Jump Static Line Courses: 25/26 SEP and 2/3 OCT (the 18/19 SEP is full). Email through to skydiveclub@nzdf.mil.nz if you are keen. If you have done your first jump or more then get the word out and recommend to others to do their first jump with us.
So the Remembrance Service is on Saturday and we may also have an opportunity to get in the sky so standby for jumping from 0830 Saturday and 1000 Sunday. For updates ring our clubrooms (09 417 7000 extension 7519) or check http://www.skydiveclub.co.nz. Wet or shine hope to see you down at the clubrooms this weekend!
Blue Skies,
Cheers,
Mark Beccard
